Currently we are running Vault 10 on 2008 R2. We have about 16TB of data, plus indexes and SQL.
We are currently backing this up using Commvault, which works very well indeed... however, I have been asked to remove this backup from Commvault as Commvault licensing is based on size of data and not number of clients.
So, what we are wondering... would it be possible / OK to buy and install something like Backup Exec and a locally attached tape library directly on the Vault server.
Our Vault server is a 12 core server with 48GB of ram. We have a separate SQL box for vault. We are in the process of getting replication for Vault set up too, with a Vault server and SQL box in our DR site replicating via VVR. This will obviously add load to the system too.
We wont mind vault being a bit slow while it backs up.
Is this possible? Anyone else do this? Really stupid idea?
