I think this is supported way and I would like to setup Windows 2008 R2 64bit and install Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 on it and use Enterprise Vault Server Settings Migration utility vs. installing 2008R2 with 9.0.5 doing migration and upgrating in plce.
When I run this to collect information I noticed this is actually stopping and disabling EV services on existing 9.0.5 server, can someone share experiance how does exactly this tool work, how does data gets migrated to new EV server? is this cut over process or can I migrate individual users archives? we have archive files located in two different stores one is local NTFS partition in existing 9.0.5 EV server and other is UNC path and archive files are located on different server, how do data gets move? finally we were previously using EV for Lotus Notes and migrated to Exchange at some point in time and at that time we used notes to exchange convertion tool so archived email can be open from Outlook, our existing EV 9.0.5 server has Lotus Notes client installed on it to this day I believe when we tried to uninstall it in past we could not open old email that was archived in Lotus Notes, it alsmost sounds like eventhough we no longer use Lotus Notes and conversion tool was sucesfully used after we migrated from Notes to Exchange, EV still uses some Notes files to read from archive, do I have to install Lotus Notes client on new EV 10.0.4 server as well?
 

and one more questio as I'm migrating our existing Enterprise Vault 9.0.5 (windows 2003 32bit) to Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 (Windows 2008 R2 64bit) majority of our clients are Windows 7 and Outlook 2010 but all our new users are getting Windows 8.1 with Office 2013 laptops, is Enterprise Vault 10.0.4 and EV outlook addin working on Windows 8.1 and outlook 2013?

I have been troubleshooting an issue with a user’s mac, where the customer is trying to log into their Symantec Enterprise Vault Client (client is version 10.0.4), and he gets a pop up from EV that says: Enterprise Vault client failed to log in.  Unable to retrieve configuration information.

As part of my troubleshooting, I have tried uninstalling the EV client and re-installing it.  I have tried also to relaod the customer's mailbox in Outlook 2011 for Mac.  Now the customer can go into his Windows computer and run outlook and pull all his archived content with no problems, but on Mac we get this error.

I have reviewed the customer’s password and the account is not locked out.  I also tried downgrading her client to 10.03 and it does the same problem.

I have been googling the issue but I have not found any information on this problem other than an old article from Symantec: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH126919&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1395250565678 where they describe the same error I am gettin and the same problem, but his article is from 03-04-2011 and they state this problem was resolved in EV Client 8 SP5.

I have several other customers with the same issue, and I am stuck as to how to resolve or what to troubleshoot next.  If someone could shed some light in my direction it would be great.

As I saw another post regarding 7.5 I figured I would start my own.    

Our aging 7.5 install  lost it's main SQL server last year.   We were able to restore some of it.

I am able to perform searches and get valid results.  

My problem comes when I try to view or restore an item  either in the web browser or the EV console itself. 

They all seem to time out and return nothing in the event logs.  

I do get the always handy   "Could not show this item, please try again, if it fails, contact your EV admin."   error message in the console, but the web page just times out.   I can see the archive ID and can browse the NTFS vault store location  ("dvs files" ?)   but I believe the problem is around the index that was in the old SQL server.  I have tried rebuilding index   and several other "hey let's try this" actions, but nothing so far.   I am not even sure where to start over again.  

Since I have limited knowledge of this platform but have seemed to inheret the title of EV Admin, I am seeking help for this out-of-support platform.

I have a problem when i tried to apply an retention plan on EV 10.0.4 HF1 MSCS Cluster. I've tested the xml File on the EV test environnement and the file is correct, becaus the plan is applied correctly. The only difference is the test environment is not a mscs cluster. I execute the CMD command on Administrator mode.

I Have this error :

Error : Value cannot be null.

Parameter name : path1

Can The retention plan applied on mscs environement ?

I have a site who following a crash of the EV server performed a BMR of the server from a full backup taken approximately 2 months ago.  The EV server contained the partitions, indexes, cache locations etc. - in fact everything excepting the SQL databases, which were intact on an alternate server.

I am now in a situation whereby the databases and the EV data locations are out of sync.  Whilst the system 'appears' to be functioning there are a few items which do not seem correct.  An example of this is an alert stating that there are 18893 deleted items waiting to be deleted from indexes.

I can update / rebuild individual indexes (highlighted in an SQL query) and the output states that it has successfully deleted xx index entries which corresponds to the number of items awaiting deletion in my SQL query.  However, when I run the query again (or re-run checks) I still get the same number of items showing as awaiting deletion.

When in a situation like this, following restore of data (but not databases) to a different point in time from the databases, what is best practice to ensure / regain a point whereby data and db's are in sync ?

I have recently went from 3 Exchange DB's to 6 Exchange DB's

three of the new DB's are on a new Hard disk.

We had some challenges with Permissions for normal EMail usage inheriting correctly and the permissions not Automatically set were modified.

My VSA has SEND AS/RECIEVE AS as permissions  in ADSI Edit at the DB level 

The actual DB's (EDB files) do not have these permissions, but the individual Mail boxes all have correct permissions in Exchange.

THe Archiving Task is currently failed. When I restart the task it will run for about 3 min, I get no Event log errors in the SYMANTEC EV log.

In teh EV Event Log I do get the events at the bottom but not specifially when restarting the Archiving task

In the WINDOWS Application log I get Event ID's 1000 and 1001 copied below

Although I have been the admin of EV for a good bit of time I am not real good with DTRACE and if I need to do one, please point me in a direction that will give me proper command switches and syntax. 

In all the timeI've been doing this I've always found the answer because someone has been here before this time I have not found anything soid that has resolved the issue yet.

All other serivces, retriving items from the vault, Journal, etc are functionaing as expected.

We have Enterprise Vault v10 (10.0.2.xxxx) in our Exchange 2003 environment which stubs any emails in mailboxes that are older than 30 days.

The stubbed data is stored on our Enterprise Vault server.

We are planning to migrate from Exchange Server 2003 to Exchange Server 2010 SP2.

The questions I have are:

1. When a mailbox has been migrated over to Exchange 2010, will the stubbed emails still accessible/able to be populated?

2. Do we need to make any changes/upgrade our Enterprise Vault server as we're migrating to Exchange 2010? Anything to bare in mind regarding 32-bit to 64-bit email platform?

3. Will we need to make any changes to the Add-in on the Outlook clients? We have Outlook 2007 on our workstations.

4. Also we have Symantec's E-Discovery product which we will be using. Will this tool be able to journal/search run queries against emails that have been stubbed and migrated to Exchange 2010?

Just wondering if anyone knows if there's a way of controling the Synchronisation Control Suspend and resume button on a users outlook plugin using a registry key, or something that can be ammended via a batch/vbs script? We're looking at disabling synchronisation on our windows 8.1 tablets when they're using it over 3G so that we do not go over our fair usage policy.

I have a singe domain and a standard setup of EV. I want regular mail to be archived after 1 year. I want mails with attachments to be archived after 60 days.

Is this possible? I can not find any settings for this in the Vault Exchange policy.

I have now made 2 different policies, one for all mail with a 1 year archive setting, and one for mails with attachements only with 60 days setting. I also had to make 2 provisioning groups (both with the same target AD group), one for each policy.

I have not tested this yet. Will it work? Regardless of if it will or not, is there an easier way to achive this?

I've a new EV 10.0.4.1333 install on a Windows 2012 server.

I archived some mailboxes and everything seems ok, but I'm unable to search archived items: "Failed to perform the search request".

I'm able to successfully synchronize and rebuild indexes, but the verification fails : "The verify subtask has failed: Failed to search the index volume.Access is denied.  (0x80070005)"

Hi, I am facing weird issue with archiving. We have two excahnge servers and one EV server. We have dedicated EV SQL server. We are facing issue with archiving through put ( archiving rate). Previously archive task used to archive more than 300000 items but now it has reduced to 50,000. Do any body help us to resolve this.

We have scheduled archive tasks running at 2000hrs

Last night I saw event 40983 - archive starting & 40987 archiving complete

There was approx 64gb supposed to be archived last night according to events

This morning ( circa 1 hour ago) our Symantec Back Up Exec Server successfully completed a Full EV back up, however if I look at the file server the free space has not changed ( I expected a 64gb reduction) and looking at several files that should of changed to shortcuts, they haven't!

I have the something going with the EV archive explorer and the search permissions of the users.

This is a new installation of EV 10.0.3 for exchange 2010 archiving (2 exchange servers are currently set)

Five users are currently enabled for archiving

The issue is: users are seeing other user's archives via the archive explorer and the search.

The users are definitely DO NOT have permissions on each other’s mailboxes

Also, tried to zap the mailbox permissions with the following syntax : http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH44818 and then   synchronize the mailboxes again (via the properties of the archive task) when both of this options in the Mailbox Policy are set to "Off" 

Inherited permissions-

 and had the same result

 Is there any  known issue with the archive explorer permissions?

The only component that was installed in the past week was just Symantec Netbackup 7.6 agent but I'm not sure how can this issue related to that ?

Not sure whether I'm having a senior moment here or not but the option to enable auditing is not right-click on Directory as I believe it should be.

The situation is that a new EV 10.0.4 installation was undertaken a few weeks with some test users, somewhere down the line someone neglected to back anything up and last week the SQL server died. No database backup at all so I've had to start from scratch, uninstall and reinstall EV after the SQL server was rebuilt, effectively a new install allbeit on the same boxes... is there something out of this debacle that would effect the new audit DB? 

Strangely I can right click the newly installed EV server and select audt Admin Activity but there is no sign of an audit DB on SQL so I doubt this is actually working. 

Can this be setup manually?
