What is your recommendations regarding automatic updates for windows and office on the EV server?
I can see the following in the compatibility chart:
Microsoft update rollups and hotfixes are supported unless otherwise stated.
But, I guess this is not black or white - as maybe some updates can cause issues with EV server archiving.
Do I let both windows updates & office updates run?
Only windows updates?
None?
Any suggestions?

Running EV9.0.2 with Centera in Governance mode and collections enabled. We're interested in moving to Compliance plus mode.
Questions:
1. At the moment, end users are able to delete mailbox archived items. I assume this is because on the "retention" tab of the Centera partition, the retention period is set to never. If we move to Compliance mode, will users still be able to delete mailbox archived items? Can we have a Compliance mode Centera with, say, a journal partition set to "only for a Centera Compliance Plus model" and a mailbox archive partition set to "never" ?
2. If we move to Compliance mode, I understand we can never lower a retention period, but we can increase it. Is that correct?
3. What are other implications of moving from Governance to Compliance mode?

I have an environment running 10.0.4 that is having an issue when attempting to retrieve messages with the storage service. This occurs whether browsing the content via Enterprise Vault search or from Discovery Accelerator Review or Export. I receive the following error message in the Enterprise Vault log:

The service is running Outlook 2007 Service Pack 3. I have confirmed that the registry key requirement exists on both the Enterprise Vault and Discovery Accelerator server:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Options\Mail\AttachmentMax
The value is set to 0xffffffff.
The two notes mentioned in the Compatability Checklist state that for Outlook 2007 SP3, the registry key and Microsoft hotfix KB for targeting Exchange 2013. The environment is Exchange 2010, so only the registry key should apply.
I confirmed that all of the errors are related to organizational announcements which go to thousands to recipients.
Any ideas?

We have 3 Mailbox servers (Exch2010) across 3 different sites and running EV10.0.4 - the EV server is aware of the 3 mailbox servers and is happily archiving mailboxes across the 3 servers.
Soon, due to organisation changes we will need to move mailboxes around from one mailbox server to another other.
My question is will we need to do anything after we have done the malbox moves from within exchange on the EV server? Or will the provisioning task pickup the fact the Mailbox was on ServerA and is now on ServerB and tie it all up nicely and continue to archive it?
I dont need disable the mailbox, Move mailbox, re enable the mailbox and associate with existing archive? Or anything else!

We've granted permissions on all archives to a user (in our records management area) using the following script;

GrantAccess = read write, Domain Name\User Name
How do we reverse it (i.e. remove this particular user's permission from all archives)?
Also can somsone advise whether or not its possible to grant an AD group read permission on all or selected archives and how?

Can anyone here please shed some light for me if there is any way according to the best practice to make sure that the email from Exchange Server journal mailbox is always available for users to be searched through EV search.asp page ?
Because at the moment, in my EV 9.0.4 architecture, it cannot be searched because the EV Backup job is backing up the Open Vault and Index location for 4-5 days mostly during the weekdays.
My assumption is that this EV journal should be instantaneous or nearly real time for any email since it is archiving continuously.

Can anyone say if they have an experience of migrating EV to new domain where SQL server is located on the EV server?
In my case, the current domain have ! EV server & 1 SQL server, but due to some limitations on target domain, they will not have separate servers, ans so EV & SQL will be hosted on same server.
What I thought is to to the change DB on the current domain and move it from SQL stand alone server to the EV server, and later change the domain membership.
BUR - I'm not sure what will be the SQL behavior after domain change or if this is even possible.
Can you please assist and give me your thoughts here?

Hi All,
I have a customer that wants to restore all of his archived data back to the exchange server
During the years the end users has been deleting shortcuts from their mailboxes, while the desktop policy is set to: Shortcut Deletion - Shortcut Only
which means that the archive contains items that the user in no longer want in his mailbox.
The question is: is there any way to restore the archived data to the exchange server without the items that already does not have the shortcuts

EV 10.0.4R1 with Exchange 2010 SP3 RU5 - single server in both cases.
Testing EV integration with OWA internally.
Customer AD domain is customer.local. Exchange 2010 has been setup to present all CAS, ECP etc.. URL's with customer.co.uk, internal and external fields. Split DNS is used to present hosts in the customer.co.uk zone with internal IP addresses to internal users.
Using server.customer.co.uk internally. OWA loads ok. EV shortcuts are double-clicked and the content is presented seamlessly.
If I click archive explorer or search in the OWA panel I get prompted for credentials. Entering them allows the use of those functions. I want it to be seamless so there is no second credential prompt. I have gone over and over the OWA installation and configuration guides and turned on OWA logging for EV. I cannot seem to see what is wrong, although at the back of my mind I think I have had this before but cannot recall what the solution is.

We are deploying Enterprise Vault across our company, and have chosen to go down the route of Vault Cache and Virtual Vault.
No shortcuts are being used, but users just see their archive content, and any shared archives as Vaults within Outlook.
All is working well, apart from we have a few users who are not enabled for archiving themselves, but need access to archives from shares mailboxes.
i.e. the user has been granted permissions to a mailbox archive, but they do not have an archive associated with their primary mailbox.
Is there any way to get this setup to work? Currently the Outlook EV plugin does not detect a primary mailbox, so no sync options are available.
ideally we would like this to work, without having to enable archiving for these users.
Not sure if slow is the right word - retrieving an archived message with the add-in is nearly instantaneous. In OWA, sometimes it fails, sometimes it comes up immediately, and sometimes after it fails and you "clear" the error message and click view item it succeeds. Some messages never get retrieved. It nearly always succeeds in Outlook 2013 with a long delay.
Anyone else run into this? The control-shift inside of Outlook 2013 only yields two lines (same thing every time and completely meaningless) and in OWA I get this a lot:

My EV version is 7.5 and as version is obsolete I wont get support from symantec call support.
My problem is now the archiving, restoring task are not working now.
This. I bilieve, started after I restart the SQL server due to some toher issue. That wa the only thing happened yesterday.
When I am restarting the Enterprise Vault Task controller service, I can see a little change in the MSM queue that the 'enterprise vault storage archive' is growing.
So it is working when restarting tasl controller service. There was a similar problema nd Symantec rectified it and that time this version wasn't removed from service request.
Please request your help at the earliest

Archiving has run for the last 5 month with Exch 2003 and the customer has now implemented Exch2010
I am trying to enable throttling for this account EVS-mail (have tried with other users too) but i end up getting this error

SQL 2008 R2 running in Mixed Mode
2 EV server and we have created DNS alias for them in AD/DNs
Site name alias pointing to EVserver1 which is the Directory Computer.
Issue
1. I am getting the below error while executing EVPM script to exclude certain folder from being archived.
2. At the same time getting one System Event ID 10009 (DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer EVSERVER1
using any of the configured protocols.)

Hi,
I have deleted 2 Vault Stores (one Partition each one) because I no longer need them. Previously I deleted all the archives inside (through the EV console) and the 2 File Systems targets related.
The 2 Vault Stores and their Partition are "Marked for deletion" since about 5 or 6 days ago. And they are never completed deleted. The Removal Status is "Inmediatly after archive". But no archiving is happening against them.
What can I do to complete the deletion?

Hi I have a bit of an odd situation with FSA.
I have a SQL server that is Win 2003 x64 SQL2005 and we are going to migrate to a new server with Windows 2008 SQL2008.
The odd bit is that we have an issue with .NET, as a result we can not run the SQL server manager. We have also had an issue when upgrading EV Report on the server from 8.0.3 to 9.0.3, so as a result the rest of the environment it at 9.0.3 except reporter that is 8.0.3.
Now my boss want to move to the new server ASAP and does not want me to look at fixing the .NET issue. So I am OK with moving the database, I have the procedure (TECH35744) and that looks OK but it does not say anything about Enterprise Reporter. Now once the database is moved should I install EV Report 8.0.3 on the server then upgrade to 9.0.3. Or can I just install 9.0.3?
