Vault Cache Sync Failing Error: Synchronization failed (std::exception):H

I need a solution

A user is reporting that vault cache synchronization is failing. I could see only below error on the Client log

Vault Store for FSA

I need a solution

We are running evault 9.0.2 for exchange archiving and planning on implementing FSA for a small number of our heavy users. I just have a question on the Vault Stores. We already have 2 for the Mailbox and Journal stores. Is it necessary or recommended to create a new store for FSA? I've been searching the support site and haven't found anything on this. I don't understand if Excahange and FSA would share a Vault Store or if they should each have it's own? It seems to me I should be creating a new one for FSA but just want to confirm that before proceeding.

Deployment scanner and DCOM

Greetings all,

 

I am trying to install EV on Win Srv 2012 and the Deployment scanner keeps on reporting that 

Both DCOM and Windows Firewall are enabled on your system. To ensure that you have correctly configured Windows Firewall to work with DCOM, see article http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH124260.

I have done everything the article suggests yet DCOM warning is still present.

When I turn the FW off the warning disappears.

 

Any thoughts?

Moving archives

Hi all,

We're currently running EV 9.0.4 on Windows 2008.

I've moved 41 archives (mailboxes) from one Vault Store to another and then (for several reasons) back again to their original location. The first move finished perfect. No errors. I deleted the old archives. Then, when I moved the archives back again to the original Vault Store, I got problemes with 3 of them (the other 38 completed fine). The problem is that they have remained as:

"Step 4 of 5 - Waiting for destination backup"

(you can see this in the "Move archive status").I have ran the backup task several times in several days but still the same status. The "Move archive" task has remains as "Processing" continiously instead of "Running" during the scheduled time.

Any help?

EV and Microsoft MRM

Hi all, can someone offer a quick peer review of the following scenario please?

 

I have had someone relay the following scenario to me:

We are having an issue with EV not archiving subfolders where Exchange 2010 has an MRM policy applied to the mailbox but is limited to the BaseFolderOnly so doesn't affect retention of the subfolders.

 

When I asked them why they were trying to incorporate bpth Ev and MRM together they replied becaus eit was to 'force' users to archibe their email, and the MRM gave thm an attractive remidner notice.

 

I Googled the interaction of both and came up with nothing. MRM doesn't come up on any EV compatibility documentation (unsuprisingly) and so I'm left to theorises that this is neither supported not desirable configuration

My intention is to go back to the perosn and tell them to remove MRM from the equation and simpy deploy EV as the archiving solution

 

Would anyone care to agree or disagree?

FSA 9.0.3 Migrating SQL to New Server

I need a solution

Hi we need to migrate from the existing server to a new server that will have a different OS and version of SQL potentially. I have see TECH35744 that talks about moving SQL but is this just for EV for Exchange or does it cover FSA as well?

Also we are on Windows 2008 with SQL 2008, we are looking to go to Windows 2012 with SQL2012.

Huge write to disk from ev$xxxx.tmp file

Hey,

 

has anyone else seen this - i have for the last week have huge write b\sec on disk where temp\tmp files been written to. In excess of 50,000,000.

 

we have 1 EV server on a physical box all local storage

Windows 2008 R 2

EV  10.0.1.1171

I have moved the temp \tmp file location to non system partition as the box was being crippled.

Storagecrawler.exe is creating the tmp files but not sure why they are creating so much writes to disk.

 

Ev has been in and running perfectly for 2 years.

Any feedback\insight welcome

EV remove archive with dvs files

Hi

I have EV 9.0.2, and two partitions, VSTORE1 and VARCH

VARCH contains archives for disabled users or users who don't work in our company anymore. 

So now I need to remove those archives from VARCH to create more free space on this partition. 

I removed about 100GB but nothing has changed with free space. I noticed that archives have gone from EV Console in Exchange Mailbox, but free space on partition hasn't changed. 

What should I do to increase free space ? I thought that EV will remove .dvs files for those archives which I removed.

WebApp.ini config - mistake or other?

Hi all, I am getting a timeout when searching a Journal using search.asp - not ideal (it's just a one off)

When I launch search.asp and use the drop down to target the search I see one target - Journal

I have the appropriate Technet to detail those webapp.ini configs available to me - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH54559

I thought the Webapp.ini config item to add was FederatedSearchMaxVolSets=n+1, where n = the number of index rollovers listed in the journal Index, properties. Then restart IIS Admin service, then refresh Ie, drop down and boom...

Doesn't seem to be working though - I still see one target

Anyone point me in the right direction?

Deleting shortcuts in someone elses mailbox

Hi all, I have an Outlook into which I've added others' inboxes to monitor when they are holiday etc

I have appropriate Exchange permissions and EV archive permissions look fine - propogated correctly to Ev frm AD

When I double click a shortcut in my own inbox the email opens. When I delete the shortcut it disappears - good, thats what I want

When I look into one of the mailboxes added to my outlook belonging to someone else (I have correct permissions still), double click the shortcut, the email opens - still good

BUT, if I click to delete the shortcut, the shortcut remains......if I doubl click it again, now the email fails to open and displays the grey message at the top of the mail preview saying there is a problem. So the email has been deleted but the shortcut remains

 

I'm pretty stumped on this tbh. Anyone got any ideas??

EV Service Account get locked out

Since I removed the last AD 2003 DC within our environment, EV is unable to connect to the remote SQL server. As soon as I start the EV admin service or run the deployment scanner the service account gets locked out. EV was able to connect to SQL prior to this change. Previously I had 2 DC (2003 and 2012) and EV was working but as soon as I demote the DC 2003, EV stopped working.

 

The EV service account has full permission. SQL logs shows this error: Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication. [CLIENT: EV IP address]

 

Since I am unable to launch the EV console I am not sure if EV was manually configured to point to a specific GC server.

 

I know EV 10.04 is compatible with AD 2012.

 

Any ideas..! has anyone seen this issue.

Using EV in a multi-tenant Exchange 2013 environment

Hi all,

is it possible to use Enterprise Vault in a a multi-tenant Exchange 2013 environment?

I have a very large customer that would like to upgrade to Exchange 2013 and leverage Multi-tenancy offered by this new release (1 Exchange server that serves more customers) and would like to use EV, so using one EV installation to manage archives of emails of more customers within one Exchange server.

Is it possible? If yes, with which version of EV?

Finally, is it possible to define different EV admin for different customers within this installation?

How to identify invalid shortcuts

I need a solution

Recentley we imported some NSF and PST files for some users who joined our company. Now I am seeing DCOM errors on the EV server which compain about these computers it shows unable to communicate with the original archive server obviosuly these servers does not exists in our environment.

 

What would be the best way to :

identify these users

find these in vaild shortcuts

 

so that I can remove them and then re-import the NSF/PST files. I am trying to avoid visitin gthese users and manually searching for these shortcuts.

Enterprises Vault 10 backup job is getting fail with Netbackup 7.5

Hi,

I need help,

Enterprises Vault 10 backup job is gatting fail with Netbackup 7.5 with error code 2 (none of the requested files were backed up(2)

As per master server - client host properties, updated the EV server' service account cerdentical has updated, but still have issue.

Restoring of entire mailbox archive to PST

I need a solution

We currently use MS Exchange email services from a Service Provider in Europe. The Service Provider provides 1GB mailboxes for every user and to tackle the rather low mailbox capacity, they use Symantec Enterprise Vault to take care of the archiving. Having used this for past 6 yrs, most of the user's emails have already been archived on EV Server. Now we are planning to change to Office 365 leaving the current service provider. Once informed, the Service Provider will disable our accounts and we will no longer have access to the emails or archives. So before we do the cut off, we would like to download all the archived mails from the server to local PC as a PST. The EV Client software in Outlook allows to download small quanities of emails only and user has to undergo pains of downloading mails in small chunks and organize them in the PST which is an impossible and erraneous task. So I would like to know if there is any software from Symantec which will allow the end user to download the entire archive to a PST in one go.
