EV10 A6 and A7 queues not clearing down

I need a solution

Hi,

We have 2 Exchange servers and their A6 and A7 queues look as follows.

Server 1 A6 = 10336

Server 1 A7 = 420

Server 2 A6 = 7370

Server 2 A7 = 203

These queues do change a bit, but not much, they are pretty static.

I am mainly concerned about the A6 queues at the moment. Looking in Server 1s A6 queue I can see the same messages have been stuck in there for days (or weeks).

Archiving does actually seem to be working. Looking in mailboxes you would not know anything is wrong.

The reason I stumbled across these is I was running an import of some PSTs and a lot of them were failing. While that may be unrelated, it can't be right having 10k messages in an MSMQ.

What would I need to do to get messages flowing through the A6 queue.

Also, what does the A6 queue actually do? Is it simply updating the shortcuts in the Exchange Mailbox? Has an email already been vaulted and this is just updating the mailbox? What would happen if I deleted items in the A6 queue?

Copying File Archiving with out restoring

I need a solution

Hi,

I am trying to copy large size of archived files from the source to another destination but without actually restoring the files from the original location. I have done some testing using FSAUtility command with the restore parameters but these parameters does copy the files but also restore them.

 

Is there a way I can copy the files without restoring them or without modifying the placeholders.

 

the syntax that I have tried to use is:

 

FSAUtility.exe -t -s "UNC source" -d "UNC destination" -l 0 -r

Enterprise Vault, stubs and missing items

Hi,

I'm very new to Enterprise Vault (8.0.3.1845) and was looking for a sanity check before I deliver some bad news to a user.

Situation is:

User opens a mail message from within outloook that has been archived.  The attachment looks like is there, however upon attempting to open, the message "Symantec Enterprise Vault - Error.  The requested item is no longer in the vault." is displayed.  I've got them to search using the Archive Explorer but the messages are not found.

Whilst on the EV server, there is a single retention policy (Set to "Forever", the option to stop items from being deleted is not checked).

This leads me to think that:

i) Enterprise vault didn't delete the items based on a policy

ii) The (or another) user has deleted the items.

iii) There is some form of misalignment between the stubs in the mailbox and what is present in the users Archive. (Is this common?  Is it fixable?)

The user did mention that a folder (containing these items) was deleted from her inbox but later pulled back through from deleted items - not sure if this can cause this unsynched stubs?

I'm trying to understand what the functional behaviour should be, so that I can formulate what to say to the user.

A colleague had suggested that embarking down a restore is not a simple task by any means.

copy vault contents?

I need a solution

We have a new iT guy and hes of no use right now. I can search the Desktop and see the first few lines of emails I sent or received but, that's all. How do I restore the actual email? Also, is it possible to copy the vault to another computer?

Is there EV SQL databases description somewhere?

I need a solution

It seems knowledge of the EV SQL DBs structure is very useful in lot of cases. Is it described somewhere?

For instance I need now to figure out what's going on with archived items deletion. I've found out JournalDelete table contains information about delete items but I don't understand what means for example "1" in the column "DeletionStatus", what other values can be there, what can they mean. Same is for other columns.

Hi Guys,

I installed EV 10.0.4 R1 CHF2 for Exchange Mailbox archiving.  Archivng is working but OWA is not showing attachments.  When I tried to check the outlook settings (ctrl+shift+EV button), I am getting "no hidden message found" (see attachment).

Any ideas?

PST import failures

Hi,

We have EV10.0.1 on 2008 R2.

We are trying to migrate PSTs in for users who were on an external domain/exchnage. They have been migrated in to our Exchange 2010 environment and have mailboxes and Vault archives.

Some of the users have gone through without issue (we have had the odd fail all the time, 1 in 10 PSTs), but now they all seem to fail, the last 20+ - could be coincidence though.

Looking at one user, it reports that the failure was because of the PST migration policy... but it doesn't shy why exactly.

Any ideas please?

EV buttons missing and attachments showing up as @65 in OWA 2010

Hi Guys,

Using EV 10.0.4 R1 CHF2 with Exchange 2010, separate CAS and mbx server.

Installed OWA 2010 extensions on CAS, I see the EnterpriseVault_ResourceVersion entry in IIS\OWA\App settings. 

Set up ExchangeServers.txt on EV and ran the owauser.wsf script.  I see the CAS server IP's as allowed in IIS\EVAnon\IP Address and Domain Restrictions.

When we open OWA internally we don't see the EV Search button, also we don't see the attachments - only @65 shows up as attachment and the attachment name in the content as text.

So it seems EWS is not aware of EV.

Client is using third party SSL certificates.

On the CAS server, trying to open http://localhost/ews/exchange.asmx generates 403 Forbidden error (see attached).  So there is a permission issue it seems but I can't figure out what!

Any ideas?

Relocating Vault Store to new server

So I have the tech article that explains how to move a Vault Store to another server:

At the end of the article, it mentions that if you are using "Include Link to archived item" in the shortcuts, you must run a reset on all of the shortcuts as explained in this article:

My question is if I am only moving a Journal vault store but resides in a Vault Store Group with the user mailbox vault store, and sharing within the group is turned on, do I still need to do this? Could these links be referencing the Journal vault store for the end users?

Enterprise Vault Client caching

EV Client v9.0.17486

Is it possible to set the Enterprise Vault Outlook (2010) Desktop Policy so that the client caches the user's archive with settings that WE (in IT) define, without the end users being prompted when they next launch Outlook with the client enabled.

If it means that the end users cannot change those settings then so be it. Harsh, I know but...

Ran EVPM not as vault service account

I need a solution

Hi,

I just ran the EVPM script to zap a mailbox and I forgot to run the script as the vault service account.  I am logged on with my domain account.  I am a Power Admin in EV, an Exchange Admin, and a local admin on the vault server.  When I ran the script I didn't get any error messages, it seemed to make the mapi connection to the user however the script never finished.  It has been running for 3 hours now and I am not sure if this is typically how long it takes to zap a mailbox. I don't want to close the command prompt just in case the script is actually processing.

Don't know what to do next.  Looking for some advice.

2003 Public Folder archived items count

I need a solution

Hi all,

As part of a fact finding mission and with the prospect of just general requests from managers I need to find a way of doing a live count of archived messages in a public folder directory. We currently have Exchange 2003 for the Public Folders so Powershell's Get-PublicFolderStatistics cmdlet won't work.

 

Does anyone know of a way of listing or doing a count of messages within a Public Folder based on their message type (ipm.note.enterprisevault.shortcut) that will work with Exchange 2003 ?

 

I'm willing to try other methods but was thinking Powershell might be the easiest.

Any help would be great.

Enterprise Vault User permissions

Hi,

 

Does anybody know of a script or tool which can run through each archive and export permissions to a csv/txt/xls file?

For e.g. three users have access to an archive.  I can see this in the VAC by opening the properties of the archive and clicking the Permissions tab.  Is there a way to run this for every archive to pull results and put it into some kind of report or file for analysis...

Im using EV8 on Windows Server 2003

Quick question: does the EV  10 planned to be supported on 2012 server platform or is it only will be possible for the EV 11 version.

I have couple of upgrades planned and I am wandering should I wait for the 2012 support,
