HI,
I want to know What is best practice / daily /weekly admin task to keep Enterprise vault Clean and stable product.
We are in the middle of an upgrade.
I successfully installed the binaries on all 4 of our servers in the site.
I successfully updated the Directory database from one of the servers.
I started the Storage Service on that same server. I received the confirmation that the VaultStore DB associated with that server was upgraded, but never got a 6221.
Instead, I received event 7137, stating:
The database for Vault Store (different vault store database) has a schema version of ‘8.38.3.14’ which is not the latest version. Start the Storage service that hosts the Vault Store in order to upgrade the schema version.
Start the storage service on: (other server)
Do we have to start all of the Storage services on all of the servers at the same time?
hello. thanks for the time and effort.
I am looking to move my journal mailbox from one Exchange server to another. Currently the journal mailbox is 10gb size. I saw this article and it seemed fairly simple.
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH48824
1. add the new Exchange server
2. create the journal mailbox on the new Exchange server
3. stop the journal task service
4. wait the journal queues are clear
5. point to the journal task to the new journal mailbox
6. point Exchange mailbox servers to the new journal mailbox
6. start journaling services
What would happen if I just move (mailbox move) the current journal mailbox to the new Exchange server? I would still have to add the server to EV Exchange servers. And wouldn't it consume a lot of time moving it? Also what happens to the messages that are trying to reach the journal mailbox? do they get stuck in a queue?
Thanks for the time.
Please could someone offer some help
I have successfully exported Enterprise Vault 9.0 on Windows 2003 R2 x32 using the Migration Wizard and guide "Migrating Enterprise Vault to 64-bit hardware using the Server Settings Wizard." and have copied all the relevant data listed in the migration report to a new Windows 2012 Server patched and hotfixed as documented. However when I attempt to run the ServerMigration.exe to import the settings the following error message is displayed "The cluster state is invalid, Migration cannot continue."
However I am not running either solution in a cluster and am unsure why this message is being displayed. I can see article below but am unsure what the issue is.
I did initially have a unknown disk attached to the server which has now been removed, however the error message is still the same.
Good morning,
In the Vault 9 to 10 upgrade docs, it mentions ensuring a cache location is set, and that this needs to be done pre-upgrade. I took a look at my current v9 environment, and see that the current cache location is blank/not set. Two questions: first, where does this default to when blank, and second, are there any risks to setting a location in my v9 environment at this point?
Thanks.
When We have configured HNAS target as file server, that time we are getting error as below, But we have given full permission for that volume.
Hi Guys,
I've installed EV 10.0.4 R1 CHF2 for Exchange mailbox archiving. Enabled one mailbox and ran archiving. 200 items got archived but shortcuts did not get created. No errors logged.
When I try to manually archive an item from outlook, it switches to archive pending momentarily but immediately switches back to outlook icon. The item is not in the archive (number of items does not increase in usage.asp nor can I find it via search). I get the following error on ev. Wondering if anyone has seen this.
Thanks,
A user's archive request has failed.
Mailbox: /o=org/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/cn-Recipients/cn=LastNameF
Folder: Inbox
Task: Exchange Mailbox Archiving Task for Exch2
Error: <0x80040115>

Hello,
I Have the The Domino Server console logs the following error:
...NotifyDirectoryService Failed - [0x80040e14].
I have a MSC Scluster EV on W2K8R2SP1 with one cluster domino with Evhousekeeping functionnality installed on each node.
I read the discussion https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/high-availability-enterprise-vault-domino-gateway about the cluster MSCS Domino.
Should we always install a domino mscs cluster on a cluster mscs enterpise vault, or are there a specific configuration for the gateway operates domino cluster.
Thanks a lot

Hi,
I have 2 servers and looking in the Message Queuing I can see a backlog of messages in there.
Server 1
A5 = 4240
A6 = 10329
A7 = 419
Server 2
A5 = 1341
A6 = 6786
A7 = 202
I have done some basic things to see if they will go down, change the schedule, stop archiving for a bit, reboot etc. Nothing. It seems this lot is stuck in the queues.
My questions are this.
1) What are each queue used for?
2) How do I clear down each queue and would we lose data doing so?
Hi all,
We're currently running:
- EV 9.0.4 on Windows 2008.
- HP LeftHand P4300 storage devices as Primary Vault Store (iSCSI).
- Using Collections
- 1 Vault Store Group with 3 Vault Stores (one Partition each)
- No Secondary Vault Store.
- BackupExec 2010 R3 SP4 (using the EV agent)
We're migrating to a new Primary Vault Store based on:
- DataDomain 2500 with DD OS 5.4 (CIFS)
I have created 3 new VaultStores on 3 CIFS shares on the DD with no collections enabled (that is the recommendation to take advantage of compression and deduplication). It seems to be that DD OS 5.4 has been optimazed to manage EV savesets.
The big problem I have found is that backups are terribly slow. Much more than in our original environment. We're even getting thousands of errors in our BackupExec server (one per each file and folder on the archive is being backup up):
Event ID 57476:
The operating system returned an unusual error while backips up the following file: \\svr-fls-06\SEV-01\Exchange2Ptn1\2014\02-24\8\OE4\xxxxxx.DVS. It is possible that this fiole is incomplete and therefor should not be restored.
Event ID 57477:
The operating system returned an unusual error while backing up the extended attributes or security information for the following directory: \\svr-fls-06\SEV-01\Exchange2Ptn1\2014\02-24\8\OE4. This problem does not prevent the directory's contents from being successfully backed up.
Even if the errors are not very critical (and I don't know if they are), it takes a lot of time to be written on the Event Viewer.
I know I can enable collections to improve backup times, but I will lose deduplication capabilities on the DD.
Any help will be grate.
Thanks in advanced and best regards.
i am using EV Version: 10.0.4.1293

Hello,
I am looking for help on extracting files from FSA in an EV 9 environment.
I need to extract a folder from a file sever which according to the client is around 20GB in size. When extracting the data with fsautility, only 4GB or so is extracted, the extract shows as complete yet the remaining data does not appear to be extracted and I can't see any errors being logged to say that there is an issue.
A previous attempt on another folder was done by another engineer which yielded a similiar result whereby apparently some data was not extracted successfully.
The files are on a DFS server which does have replication enabled.
Is there any issue which could be causing this or it there a way that I could verify the size of an archive and its subfolders before running an extract?
Thank you.
hello,
i have to run the following command on a bunch of users
cscript .\EV8ShortcutFolderFixer.vbs fix '185B3AE84EF67B64E865082531096228B1110000EV8server' |
sometimes it asks to access outlook, and you have to click yes, is there anyway to bypass that, so i can run it and leave it alone, instead of babysitting it and clicking yes everytime?
thanks
Hi,
I'm asking this cause we have had environmeant where users have had outlook 2007, mailserver has been exc 2007 and EV was in version 8.
Goal is to update the mailservers to version exc 2013.
Now we have updated users outlook to 2010 version and EV server to 10.0.4 and this has been working just fine together havin the exc 2007 mailserver.
But, some pilot users have been migrated to the new exc 2013 server and as a result when they open the outlook they get error message:
Error "Enterprise Vault is not available because of your Outlook Configuration" when opening Outlook Anywhere.
My exchange admin tells me that the new mailserver requires the RPC over HTTP (outlook anywhere) to be on.. true?
And if I now configure the EV server to allow the anywhere connections, will the old users having their mailboxes still in the exc 2007 loose their connection to archive? ( http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO58377 )

Hi,
We are planning to use Enterprise Vault as archival solution with our existing storage server. As I understand from the Enterprise Vault manual.
1. Enterprise Vault have two software application.
1.1 Enterprise user application that configured on user machine to provide the authentictaion to the user, move data to the archival stoarge or move data from archival stoarge.
1.2 Enterprise server application is used to create policies, transfer data to the storage server.
For more detail please find the attached PPT.
Please correct me if my understanding is not right.
Hi Guys,
I am having the strangest issue with EV 10 at the moment. I upgraded the system from EV 10 to 10.0.4. Upgrade went through fine, all databases upgraded without any issues. But when I try and access the VAC it states that it cannot connect to the directory please check that the SQL server is avalible (It is) and that the service is running (which it is).
If i look into the events I get a information stating that I must check the events on the SQL server to see if there are any erors:
Cannot connect to the Enterprise Vault Directory service.
Check the Enterprise Vault event log on ZATERSQL01 to find the cause of the problem.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://entced.symantec.com/entt?product=ev&language=english&version=10.0.4.0&build=10.0.4.1189&error=V-437-8623
On the SQL server I have a 17806 error which relates to a SSPI handshake failed error code: 0x8009030c state 14. I have attached a screenshot. EV has sysadmin rights on SQL and DBower on the databases.
Any ideas?
Rob
Hi All
I am busy with a new EV implementation, EV 10 sp4 CU2, and there is PST ingestion portion as part of the project
The customer has noticed an interesting anomaly. The PST Locator finds a list of PST on desktop x and adds the PST to the File List in the VAC, this is the expected behavior. But a user manually copies or moves a specific PST into Outlook and then manually deletes the PST from the desktop. The next day the PST Locator runs and successfully scans the desktop X again but it doesn't update the fact that the PST is no longer on the desktop.
The customers wants to use the PST File list in the VAC to monitor the number of PST in the environment, so if this list is not being updated to reflect the fact a PST was manually removed it will inconsistent. Is this the normal behavior and why wouldn't EV automatically remove a PST from the VAC list if its not on the desktop anymore?
Thanks
